After years of practicing law, serving in the NC House of Representatives, working in the non-profit sector and teaching children how to read, I am devoting more time to writing.

Bio

Jennifer Weiss grew up in rural New Jersey. Her poems have appeared or are slated to appear in numerous publications, including the North Carolina Literary Review, Kakalak, Pinesong and The Main Street Rag, and have been featured in the NC Poetry Society "Poetry in Plain Sight" series. She was the winner of the 2022 NC State Poetry Contest, and a finalist in the 2019 and 2015 North Carolina Literary Review James Applewhite Poetry Prize Competitions and the Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival 2014-2015 Poetry Contest.

Jennifer served as an editorial assistant with Minerva Rising and wrote book reviews for The Main Street Rag. For the past three years, she has served as the Wake County Representative for the North Carolina Writers’ Network and as the facilitator of Wonderland Book Club.

A lawyer, former state legislator and third place brownie contest winner, she currently volunteers in a Title I elementary school and is passionate about reading aloud to children.

Jennifer and her husband live in North Carolina. They enjoy hiking, reading, traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
